Chiropractic Care for Animals?
“What I never heard of that before, but now that I think about it, it makes total sense”. That is the response I hear so often. Animals have spines and a nervous system too. But in reality, chiropractic by definition is the manipulation of the spine in humans.
What do you call it if it isn’t animal chiropractic?
The proper name is Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM).
Is VOM Chiropractic Care?
No! VOM exists in between veterinary medicine and chiropractic care. It has similarities to some of the chiropractic modalities by restoring function by reducing "subluxations" as is done in chiropractic care. It uses a hand-held device called a spinal accelerometer.
The differences between VOM and Chiropractic care are significant and distinct.
VOM exists in a gray area between both professions (Veterinary and Chiropractic) and benefits from the positive aspects of both, a hybrid, and thus more effective than either by themselves.
So what is VOM?
Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM) is a healing technology that locates areas of the animal's nervous system that has fallen out of communication, and re-establishes neuronal communication and thus induces healin
In other words, "If your pet is showing signs or symptoms of a disease process, VOM Technology systematically and objectively finds and corrects the problem with great accuracy and speeds recovery to your ailing pet".
VOM is singularly the most simple, effective and safe healing modality in veterinary care to date.
What Are The Qualifications of a VOM Practitioner?
In order to become a VOM practitioner one has to have substantial background in Physiology, Anatomy and Biology. That means having a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Chiropractic (DC) or Medical Science (MD). Then it requires minimum completion of Modules 1-3 in the VOM technology, personal hands on training and further home study and written exams. Chiropractors are only allowed to perform Musculoskeletal Manipulations as an unlicensed assistant under the direct supervision of a veterinarian at a veterinary hospital or in a range setting.
What Are Dr. Wong's Qualification's?
Dr. Wong has been in private practice as a chiropractor for the past 16 years and has been personally trained in VOM by its creator William L. Inman, BS, DVM, CVCP.
Besides the basic 3 modules to become a VOM practitioner, Dr. Wong has completed all additional modules for a total of 6, presented multiple case files and taken and passed the Certified Veterinary Chiro Practitioner (CVCP) exam and is now a CVCP:
- VOM Basic Theory and Canine Application
- Advanced Applications and Procedures
- Feline Application and Autonomic Disease
- Somato-Visceral Disease and Myofascial Release
- Equine Application VSV and VMR
- Cold Laser Application in all Animals
Dr. Wong only works alongside a licensed Veterinarian once they have examined and okayed treatment to include VOM.
Why Haven't I Heard Of VOM Technology Before?
VOM methods are not currently taught in the primary curriculum of veterinary schools. Like many veterinarians in order to learn advanced procedures they must attend courses outside of their primary
education. Many veterinarians are so busy with their primary practice they do not have the time to perform these advanced procedures.
VOM trained practitioners work with your veterinarian to provide specialty care, just like a medical doctor would refer you out to a cardiologist if you had a heart problem.
VOM technology was extensively examined by the Veterinary Board in the state of Washington and validated as a "valuable, safe, fast and effective healing technology".
There are over 8,000 trained VOM practitioners throughout the world.
Will My Pet Be Predisposed To A Disease Process?
Genetics play a large role in the disease process. However it has been documented that if early detection is made and treatment is begun most disease processes can be avoided thus saving grief on the animal, pet owners and the wallet.
Early detection and treatment if necessary can allow a pet to thrive to their fullest potential and save a lot of emotional expense. 
The bottom line is VOM technology is the best kept secret in veterinary medicine.
Is VOM Safe?
Absolutely! To date countless cases have been administered without any hint of injury. In research studies directed at the possible damage that the treatment protocol device might cause, laboratory rats were pulsed with the device one thousand times with the mechanism set at its highest level and the rat was then examined to reveal no neurological damage. There was not enough motion to cause injury.
What Can VOM Treat?
Routinely treated are conditions such as:

How Many Treatments Are Needed?
A common concern of clients who consider this care is that if the animal is treated in this fashion, will they have to continually return for more adjustments? The answer is no. The average amount of adjustments per case is 5.75 or essentially six adjustments over a four-month cycle of healing.
The good news is that after this cycle is done; like in the case of a broken bone healing back stronger than before, the area that has
been healed does not have problems again. This imparts a cure as opposed to a temporary fix that previous medical and surgical treatments provide.
The other consideration is cost, on average the cost per visit of VOM is $50—$80. This includes examination, spinal and somatovisceral adjustments, myofascial release and low level laser therapy. With a high success rate (93% average) and low cost this makes for very affordable care.
Why Is VOM So Accurate?
VOM technology relies on diagnostic reading patterns that can be found weeks to years before x-rays and other diagnostic techniques will verify. All diagnostic reading patterns have a pathological reflex demonstrably associated with them.
A pathological reflex is like a knee jerk response. It is either there or it is not. It is an objective means to find disease conditions that would otherwise go undiagnosed. VOM is a precisely objective science.
